Welcome
London to New Zealand – an Adventure for Alzheimer’s!
Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects just as many people as does cancer, yet awareness of the illness is limited to those who have elderly relatives who suffer. A degrading and progressive condition, it is our intention to tackle the problem of Alzheimer’s awareness, a problem that will continue to grow as the average of the world population grows in time, by embarking on a journey from London to New Zealand in a converted 1978 Dodge HiLine truck!
On reading this you may think we are mad, but our desire to raise Alzheimer’s awareness across the world has led us to plan the journey on the smallest possible carbon footprint we can possibly manage. To this end we are committed to using vegetable oil fuel, to utilising natural engine lubricants and to embracing solar power – all ecologically sound ideas that will form the basis of power in both our travelling and living space for the nine months we estimate the journey will take.
We leave at the end of July 2010 to traverse Europe, crossing into Asia and overland in Turkey, Iran and India. From India the truck will be shipped to Malaysia where we will undertake the South East Asian leg of our journey before sailing to Australia. A trip around Australia will be followed by the final leg of our exciting and momentous journey in New Zealand.
Ambitious it may seem, but we have spent many months planning the trip and preparing the truck, and we believe that raising Alzheimer’s awareness is something that makes it all worthwhile. We hope that you will join us – James and Andrea – on our travels and keep up with developments on the website where we will be posting regular news updates, pictures and acknowledgements to all who help us on our way.
